First Vice President, Business Development Interview

      Nov 8, 2013
      Anonymous employee
      New York, NY
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 8 weeks. I interviewed at Citi (New York, NY) in May 2009

      Interview

The environment during interviews was as expected - very blue suit, red tie, financial servicves atmosphere. Polished executives, serious conversation and quick paced. The culture seemed more friendly than some brokerage firms, especially given the many I know in NYC, but still it was very much a company about investments and advisory services, and very serious, focused and specific in approach to any topic.

      Question 1

One difficult question was regarding the changing marketplace and how advisors are moving from commmissions to fee-based compensation. It was not fair to ask this so soon in the conversation (in 2 out of 5 interviews) when you have not built up to it, and when it really cannot be covered well in a 30 to 45 minute conversation where you also need to cover other things.
