Vice President of Human Resources Interview

      Mar 30, 2016
      Anonymous employee
      Atlanta, GA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Cortland (Atlanta, GA) in Feb 2016

      Interview

In my twenty years as a professional, this was by far the best selection process I have ever experienced. Cortland Partners knows it isn't a place for everyone; but, it is an incredibly special team to be part of. Overall, I found the interview to be a highly engaging process assessing my relevant skill set while gauging the depth and breadth of my experience. I really valued the opportunity to determine whether I could envision success in the role if hired, through candid discourse. It was refreshing to have so many people simply tell it like it is, while letting their evident passion for what they do, and who they do it for shine through. I met with a broad spectrum of representatives of the Cortland team which provided a greater lens into not just the role itself, but what it means to be part of the organization. I categorize the interview as average because I expect to be challenged, especially at this level. I can appreciate that for some, the process may be perceived as intense which might take them out of their comfort zone.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

There were no "gotcha!" type questions; rather, there were plenty of thoughtful inquiries meant to draw out your skills, relevant experience, and so much more. To limit this response to just one question would be an injustice to the entire process and team of individuals I met with.

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Cortland in Jan 2016

      Interview

Total joke.....and they should know better. You get interviewed by an outside consultant (fairly positive) and then another consultant that's apparently located within the company. it appears just about anyone that passed the inside consultant screen gets an assessment by a Dr Hickey who's claim to fame is conducting an on-line assessment that takes an hour. Very unusual survey.... to say the least. Don't expect feedback....it's not their model. This is disclosed just prior to taking the assessment.... but still a terrible 1-way process where the candidate doesn't at least get the benefit of knowing why they are culled from consideration. Just a terrible, insensitive process that apparently is a direct reflection of the company and how they do business. They had a person that filled the job for a couple weeks. Great job the assessment made (as in "not"). Total hands-off approach - worst ever experience. Good luck if you're that desperate!
