I applied for a number of positions advertised on the Costco careers site, but when I was called for an interview, I was told that they only had part-time Cashier Assistant positions available and that is where they start everyone, then promote from within to other full-time positions. So I agreed to interview for a part-time Cashier Assistant position just to get my foot in the door. I met a manager and a supervisor in the food court — and they proceeded to interview me right there in the food court. Surrounded by people eating and talking, and carts rolling past toward the exit. I had to ask them twice to repeat questions over the noise. The manager talked a bit about the position and mostly repeated the general info they had already told me over the phone. The supervisor read standard interview questions verbatim off of a pre-printed list. Neither interviewer asked any follow ups to my answers, neither took notes, and there was little eye contact from the supervisor. I was invited to ask my own questions, and the main one was how often they transition part-time staff into full-time positions in other areas of the store and what qualifications they look for. The manager answered vaguely, so that whole process is still unclear to me. They told me that they would be sending emails to those who would not be asked back for a second interview (which I received 2 days later). The entire interview took less than a half hour. I'm not sure why I was invited for an interview since they didn't seem very interested. It was pretty low energy and not a great experience.
