      Marketing Interview

      Apr 20, 2019
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Columbus, OH
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at CoverMyMeds (Columbus, OH) in Mar 2019

      Interview

Unprofessional. That's the one word I will use to describe my overall experience with CoverMyMeds. I had a phone call and an onsite with the Head of HR and then I had a second onsite with a Group Head. The first clue that should have told me that they were never seriously interested in me as a candidate was that neither the head of HR nor the group head gave me a job description or any kind of role definition. No title, nothing. The conversations with the head of HR went well. We discussed the company's history and evolution as well as my background. My second onsite with the Group Head can basically be described as free consulting. He maybe asked one or two questions about my background and then took copious notes as he asked me several questions about how I would approach various marketing scenarios - which I knew were very real scenarios he and the company were facing. It was completely unprofessional and quite frankly unethical in my opinion. Those interviews occurred over a month ago. No one from the company called me or wrote to me to say that they are not interested. Complete silence since the free consulting episode. My advice to senior level candidates is to make sure that you are applying for a posted position with a clear job description. And watch for signs that they may be trying to get free consulting from you during the interview process.

      Question 1

Several questions asking me how I would approach various marketing scenarios. They wanted me to give them free consulting under the guise of an interview.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at CoverMyMeds (Columbus, OH)

      Interview

GREEN FLAGS: The interviews were generally very positive experiences. The people (for the most part) were warm and professional, and I could tell they reviewed my materials thoroughly as many questions were highly specific to my experience. RED FLAGS: The process was comprised of FIVE different interviews, including a project presentation. That's at least 5 hours of time off work, not to mention prep time for a presentation that ultimately did not result in a job offer. That's a risk you take as an applicant, which is understandable, but just know that the process is a commitment, which may continue on a lot longer than you expect. I also saw a bit of a red flag with the project presentation as I was required to do work that seemed very much like work I'd complete if offered the job. The assignment was certainly a chance to show what I could do in the role, because I felt that I was literally performing the job duties of the role, but in the interview stage. I've done editing tests/example work assignments for interviews before, but never have been asked to something so specific that I wondered if the work product would actually be used.

Thank you for sharing feedback about your interview experience. We appreciate your interest in building a career at CoverMyMeds and your dedication to our interview process. Being invited to participate in a project day is much more than an opportunity for us to evaluate your skills and experience—it also provides candidates with an opportunity to get a feel for what working at CoverMyMeds is like with the team you’d be working with each day. It sounds like the project day you participated in was closely related to the role you applied for, which is precisely our intention. We offer all of our final candidates an opportunity to get a sense of what “a day in the life” is like so that they can make a decision about whether the role is the best fit for their career goals. It also provides valuable information that helps speed your success in onboarding if you’re hired. I welcome the opportunity to connect if you’d like to provide additional feedback on how we can continue offering a best-in-class experience. Thanks again, and best of luck with the next steps in your career. — Veronica Knuth, VP, HR
