      Sr. Software Engineer Interview

      Aug 2, 2019
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Charlotte, NC
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Credit Karma (Charlotte, NC) in Jul 2019

      Interview

Interview process was a bit odd towards the end. The first process was talking to a internal recruiter to field my interest and expertise. 2nd stage was a phone interview and code challenge using CoderPad. This was very good and the challenge was a good one and it was a great way to show what I could do. Then I waited 2 days to get an onsite interview where things were so so. What disappointed me was the change in interviewers and the fact that I was suddenly interviewing for different roles that I had no idea what they were. The 2nd interviewer was done via video conference and he looked like he just woke up and seemed like he was fighting focus during the interview. Instead of using something like CoderPad again, I had to use a digital whiteboard that locked up early in the interview process which made it hard to showcase my work. They kindly treated me to lunch, but to be honest, it was hard to gauge what they wanted me to showcase. To me, the interviewers did not seem very prepared to do an interview that day and I do not feel I was able to showcase my skills and knowledge like I have been able to on past interviews. I did 4 of them and each had about 45 minutes to go through my resume and drill my knowledge. 2 were not able to completely evaluate me. There are very smart people who work there, but I think they need to seriously work on how they conduct interviews and prepare for them.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

Describe Java Programming Design Patterns. This is where the interviewer wrote down a few on a whiteboard (that he struggled to remember) and I had to describe them.

      Question 2

I was given a very long scenario and asked to whiteboard the structure of the application.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Credit Karma (Charlotte, NC) in Sep 2022

      Interview

The process involved a preliminary HR screen, a technical overview discussion, and then a series of coding assessments and a design architecture exercise. Overall it took a couple of weeks.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The coding assessments focused on standard JS patterns - knowing basics of algorithms, array handling, etc. Having a fundamental grasp on JS/TS should take you through these comfortably. The design exercise was more subjective and covered optimization, performance, etc.

      Interview

Had a call with the recruiter. She only asked me questions like why Credit Karma and what impact do you want to make on the company. Didn't get to the next round, I feel its unfair that my experience and work was not taken into consideration.

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Credit Karma

      Interview

Let me tell you CK recruiters are unprofessional the way they conduct themselves and even in the email. No respect for you. The recruiter contacted me and we had initial call. He setup initial phone screen. I asked recruiter what will be the format of phone screen. He answered generically it'd be DSA question so, prepare accordingly. Coming to my phone screen the manager who was supposed to take interview didn't join and some mid level engineer joined after 10 minutes. Instead of asking DSA question he copy pasted some long Java Design question which had 3 sub questions. I got 2 of them right. But, for 3rd one was not passing the test interviewer created because the interviewer himself was not of Java background and got confused about float and double. 2 days later as usual general email of rejection. I told recruiter what had happened and when I can apply again but, didn't get any reply. I have gone through FAANG interview process and they have recruiters who are so, professional and friendly. They provide the feedback and something goes wrong they'd try to help you. But, CK is no match of FAANG when it comes to recruiting process.
