      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Crossover for Work (New York, NY) in Oct 2017

      Interview

It was a 6h long process in what they called a "tournament", divided in 5 stages with two 10 min breaks during the day. They have a online gamified platform where you take the test and submit you answers, where you can see your graded results among with everybody else's scores. More than half of the questions were difficult to understand due to spelling and grammar errors.

      Interview questions [6]

      Question 1

Algorithm test (30 min): they asked to implement a basic algorithm (sorting an array or numbers) in your language of choice
      1 Answer

      Question 2

Oral comprehension test (35 min): watching a technical presentation video given by an engineer with a very strong accent and then answer 20 questions about it.
      Answer question

      Question 3

Technical test (45 min): you have to answer 45 questions technical in 45 minutes about your technology! The questions were a bit verbose and you have to be careful for managing the time available.
      Answer question

      Question 4

Management test (45 min): 30 questions about Scrum as a Scrum Master
      Answer question

      Question 5

Code review (60min): you download a repository and answer questions about the quality of the code
      Answer question

      Question 6

Project planning test (60 min): you write a project proposal and should pay attention to management details (project quality/code review/team communication issues/what's your style for hiring and firing your team/etc.)

Hello and thank you for your feedback regarding our hiring tournaments. We have designed these tournaments to be fun yet tough and to help us identify the top talent in the world. It does trouble us to learn that there may be grammar and spelling errors and will follow up with our testing team immediately. We do invite you to share any other feedback or concerns that you may have, with us. We are always evolving and learning, and the best way to do that is through our interactions with our candidates. If you wish to share anything further with us, please reach out to us at feedback@crossover.com. We can't wait to speak with you!

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Crossover for Work (London, England) in Jun 2020

      Interview

Broken online process for coding questions. Ignores the language that you select at the start as being most comfortable in. The code examples for testing don't actually appear. No way to go back or actually get a reply after reporting faults. One part of the process involves entering a username and password which are both supplied in the same email, so I'm not confident of their competence.

what pattern do these 4 lines of code follow?

      Interview

It's a very well defined process with several steps. There is a web page showing the status of your application. The process begins by introducing your personal data, then to a screening exam (test), then a written exam. You also need to record yourself speaking in English. At the end, you'll have a interview with the Hiring Advocate and then to the hiring manager. Once you passes all the tests, you get into a "MarketPlace pipeline", where you can get hired by a manager.

      Question 1

There are screening exams, written exams, and technical interviews.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Crossover for Work (Southampton, England) in Apr 2018

      Interview

The interview medium selected by Crossover was an online conference/presentation tool (Zoom, in detail) that was hosted initially by allegedly an employee from Crossover. A simple Google search revealed that the hostess was someone that possess a profile as an actress in London (First warning sign here). An explanation from someone supposedly holding a similar position is given and a Q&A session is hold. Not many questions or answer about job conditions, benefits, entitled holidays, etc. Some questions about working dynamics, team management, customer facing duties, etc. are usually replied with "depending on the project you work with). Once reaching the online testing phase, which they report to take 2~3 hours, you realise a few things: - It is here that you have to choose the role you are applying for. Yes, you will be appliying for a Software Engineering Manager position, but it is only at this point that you have to choose for the category, in terms of C# (.NET) or SaaS, among others. The category list doesn't make full sense and you have to make the choice without a detailed job spec whatsoever (Second warning sign here). - There are at least two different online test services involved, with a not very intuitive or self-explanatory process. There is an apparent dependency between the testing services that might potentially result in faulty completion of the whole process. Little to null tech support is provided and you can expect the reply to come after the supposedly deadline for completion of tests. - The online tests take way much longer than reported by then, easily extending to 8~10 hours. Expecting a single person to perform a detailed code review of a whole solution consisting of multiple projects, weighting around 1/4th of the whole tech tests within the 2~3hours frame is simply unrealistic. No previous warning about the need of code developing tools is provided. Communication after the online tests is misleading and quite probably simply automated. You may as well get an email stating your pre-selection for an advocate interview and the next one (days later) saying you didn't make the cut at the test. No feedback on the test is provided. Considering most of the questions in the test are multiple choice, certainly some results can be shared. Also, given the time invested in the test, the least you may expect is feedback with some level of detail. I don't recommend investing a whole day of your life in this when it's clear that the company doesn't even bother to put a sensible automatic system in place.
