I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Dillard's (Fairview, TX) in Sep 2022
Interview
The interview will likely be one-on-one with a hiring manager or department lead. It might take place in-person at the store or virtually.
The interview will likely last around 20-30 minutes and focus on your customer service skills, experience in retail (if any), and availability.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Tell me about a time you provided excellent customer service.
How do you handle difficult customers?
What experience do you have in retail (or sales)? (If you have no experience, highlight transferable skills like communication and teamwork)
Why are you interested in working at Dillard's?
What are your salary expectations?
Are you available to work weekends and holidays?
Standard interview, quite short (20 minutes) for the first round. Asked about past experience, sales skills, expected pay, and my future goals at the company. Interviewers were very nice and welcoming, made the experience much less intimidating!
Not sure what to expect. When I spoke to the manager it felt very condescending and off putting. The interview was fine but they exaggerated the amount of commission associates can make and didn’t even give me a chance to agree to a job offer just assumed that I would take it. I don’t have very high hopes about how it will be working there. When I came in for my interview one associate didn’t even greet me like she did the last customer and the energy of the atmosphere just felt super dull and soulless. I need this job on my resume as a fashion business student for internships so I’ll push through but not at all optimistic about the work environment.
