I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Dollar General (Evansville, IN) in Feb 2014
Interview
I applied online on a Wednesday night. The app was kinda long but not hard at all. Thursday morning, I received a call asking if I could come into and do an interview that day. Asked me what time I was available. I came in 10 minutes early wearing slacks, a blouse, and tennis shoes. The manager wasn't in yet (he had went to the bank) so I took a look around while waiting.
When he arrived, he was friendly and took me into his office. He asked some usual interview questions and then some that I guess are usual for Dollar General but not everywhere else. As the interview concluded, he informed me of what all I would have to do to move forward in the hiring process (drug test and background check along with a hire packet online) and asked if I have any problems with that. After that he asked me if I had any questions and then told me I was hired pending the above and shook my hand again.

Interview
The interview process was laid back and I felt comfortable to ask the hiring manager questions. I was respected and understood everything the manager was saying. I went into the back and we sat down and she told me about my position. She made it very clear as to what I had to do. She let me ask my questions that I had written before.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The one thing they asked me was why I wanted the job.
I applied online through the website and the managed called me. I scheduled an interview over the phone. I was taken to the office where she asked me some questions (I don't remember them) and I handed her my resume. She basically hired me there, I think.
I applied in-person. I interviewed at Dollar General (Gower, MO) in Aug 2025
Interview
They told me my responsibilities and I was hired. The only question I was asked is "Do you have any questions?" Most definitely the easiest interview of my life. I got hired for showing up.
