      Human Resources Specialist Interview

      Jan 9, 2020
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Seattle, WA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Expedia Group (Seattle, WA) in Dec 2019

      Interview

Unfortunately, I had a very poor candidate experience from the beginning to the end. This was mostly due to the lack of communication and professionalism from the recruiter. I was reached out by this recruiter who wanted to schedule a quick call with me to discuss my interest in the role. After I responded and gave him my availabilities, he didn't message me back until two days later. Although that was a minor red flag, I didn't think that was a big issue. The recruiter scheduled our call the following day at 3pm. On that day, he did not call me at the scheduled time. I waited almost 15 minutes before sending him an email about our call which prompted him to call me around 4:20pm (over an hour later) and apologizing because he scheduled the call for the wrong day. I wasn't sure if I should've been embarrassed for me or or him. On top of this, our call was short and felt rush. Although I was very upset with this, I was eager to learn more about the opportunity and to be a part of Expedia, and therefore, I had agreed to a video interview with a manager the following morning.  Unfortunately again, she, too, was 10 minutes late to our meeting. Although I understand that it was a busy time of the year, I did not expect to have such poor communication every step of the way. I did not want the recruiter to taint my overall experience with the company and so I agreed and moved forward to the onsite interview, which went well. My recruiter told me in person that he would reach out to me the following week to follow up but never did. After a few days, I sent him an email to see where my application status was but he did not reply to me at all. It was exactly two weeks after my onsite when he gave me a call to see if I was interested in another position because the one I had applied for had been filled. I was baffled because this was news to me and he suggested that we had already talked about this when in fact we did not. I kindly told him that he never followed up with me after my onsite and that he never responded back to me follow up email. His response was that he thought he sent a reply back. That was a very embarrassing situation on his part. Overall, I am still grateful for experiencing the onsite interview and meeting the HR team. However, based on my candidate experience with Expedia, I am left with a very negative first impression of the recruiting process and the company. After reading more reviews about other people's candidate experience at Expedia, it makes me feel a bit better knowing I'm not alone. I hope the Talent Acquisition Team will take this feedback into consideration and make some changes in the future.
