Management Development Program - Auto Damage Interview

      Nov 5, 2015
      Anonymous employee
      New York, NY
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at GEICO (New York, NY) in Oct 2015

      Interview

The interview process was very intense. It starts with initial application online enough there passing the qualifications you receive a phone interview with the recruiter the phone interview last about 45 minutes to an hour. The questions are around leadership skills past employment and STAR questions. Some of the questions surrounding education whether or not you were going to continue seeking further education for example I had a few credits towards my masters and decided to discontinue my education and I knew exactly what I would be using it for what I would need which seem to Bidwell for me during the interview process. After the phone interview I was asked to come in for a series of assessments. I was not told how long it would take but the first part took about 4 1/2 hours which consisted of two assessments on the computer which was a personality test as well as some mathematics and reading comprehension. After passing those assessments I was then asked to take another mathematical assessment and after passing that I had a face-to-face interview with the recruiter which lasted about an hour and she rather explain the job as well as additional star interview questions and questions regarding leadership persuasion and negotiation as well as customer service. After passing the day of interviews/assessment I was than asked to come in for a mock scenario setting. The mock scenarios started with 35 minutes to read a packet of information regarding a hypothetical insurance company and after reading the information you had to go through series of scenarios where two managers acted as customers and you had to help them based of them off of the information you had just read. That lasted approximately an hour and a half and was probably the toughest part of the interview process due to lack of knowledge before hand that you go went to knowing and the pressure to learn everything you can in the limited time. The managers take about an hour grading your mock scenario assessment and after pressing that you proceed onto interview with the manager of the department that you'd be working in as well as the manager for the MDP program. The managers further describe the job as well as what the program consists of what is expected and how the company itself provide you with the necessary tools to be up for promotion within a year and a half to two years of being in the program. After the interview with the two managers they consult with the director and love your okayed you have a job offer.

      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at GEICO (Katy, TX) in Nov 2017

      Interview

As everyone else has stated here, it was quite tedious. But I completed it, and got an offer. I did the background check, the drug test, and now that it is two weeks before my start date, I gave my employer my 2 weeks notice. Next, I received a call that they were terminating my offer because of my MVR. They are not giving me the job anymore because I had two speeding tickets when I was in college. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Why offer this position to college students if you want a perfect candidate who has never made a simple mistake? I could understand if I had a DUI, or a suspended license, or reckless driving. Speeding ticket took my position. The background check company gave me a hard time during the entire process. Literally. You guys turned down a great candidate with a good GPA, good interview, passed all of the tests and everything, passed the background check, good references, and two weeks before time to resume I get a call from HR in Dallas saying that they are longer offering the position? All I can say is they missed out on a great candidate. I just finished college, and I am ready to get into the workforce. I went from having a job and getting a better one, to now I am unemployed. I will never waste my time applying for GEICO again. That is so ridiculous.

      Application

      Interview

I found out about the position at a campus career fair. I submitted my application online, and was contacted for a phone interview about a week later. The interview went well, but the interviewer discouraged me from continuing the application/interview process because the suggested salary was significantly less than my previous salary. I was well aware of this prior to submitting my application, and I was still interested in the opportunity, but I was not offered a follow-up interview.
