I was asked why I had left my previous role. I explained that, because of an ongoing legal matter, I wasn't able to discuss the circumstances of my departure. The recruiter responded that they did not need to heart the gossip or drama. I found that response dismissive and unprofessional. Candidates should be able to set appropriate boundaries around confidential or ongoing legal matters without having those boundaries characterised in that way.
