      Lead Engineer/Technologist Interview

      Feb 19, 2026
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Grainger

      Interview

Awful and unprofessional. I interviewed for a mid-level IT job, for which I was more than qualified. First, they dragged their feet for 2-3 weeks after each interview before scheduling the next round, so the process kept me on the hook for months. Then the recruiter called me to say they were ready to make a decision. She said that IF they offered me the role, it would be a more junior title than I was interviewing for, and the comp would be on the low end of the range. The most insulting part: she pressured me to say on the call whether I would accept this lowball or not, precluding any negotiation. Uh... that's not how this works! If you're going to lowball me, the least you can do is make an actual offer so that I can accept, decline, or counter-offer. Grainger's high-pressure manipulation tactics showed a total lack of respect.

      Question 1

Typical questions about experience, plus heavy hinting at working weekends. (no overtime pay for this role, as it is salaried)
