      Software Engineer Interview

      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Grant Street Group in Jun 2025

      Interview

The first step is they send you a coding assessment with a SQL challenge and a coding challenge in your preferred language. The coding challenge was hard, I wont give it away, but I will just say that it would be best break down the challenge into a bunch of smaller problems to solve and then combine. The next step was a coding challenge with a tech lead, and a more casual interview. The tech lead responded to questions, offered some thoughts and subtle hints. The next phase was 4 back to back interviews with a HR person, two engineers, and then a relational database design challenge with and engineer and a PM. The interviews with the engineers went shorter than anticipated, they didnt have many questions between them. This may have been my weakest of the 4 interviews because I would consider making separate tables for things that may have made more sense to store in a single table. A day later after the 4 interviews, I got a rejection letter.

      Software Developer Interview

      Nov 26, 2024
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      San Diego, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Grant Street Group (San Diego, CA) in Nov 2024

      Interview

After receiving your resume company sends you a link to 75-minute assignment right away (no intro call). It consists of 3 parts: math/logical part, SQL query part, and code challenge. This all makes sense if they really wants to move forward with your candidacy initially. But after spending time on their assignment and getting 100% correct results they just sent me an email "However, for this particular role, we’ve determined that there are candidates who may be better aligned with our needs at this time." a few days later. So, why to ask someone to spend extra time on assignment if you're not interested in that candidate??? Do not apply for Grant Street Group roles - it's just a waste of time!!!

Response from our CTO: We welcome constructive criticism and we take it seriously, as you can see from our responses to previous posts. However, we cannot take your feedback seriously because you have not been honest about what actually happened. You did not, as you claim, get "100% correct results" on what you have misunderstood as an "assignment". In fact, you got 0% correct, because, as you informed us, you decided you had a "near zero chance" of being seriously considered and abandoned your application. Besides offering applicants the benefit of receiving prompt notification of whether they will advance to the next round in the process, the programming competency exercise that you failed also has the benefit of weeding out unserious candidates.
