I applied through college or university. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Harvard University (Cambridge, MA) in May 2009
Interview
I saw the job posting and emailed the head of the department to express my interest. I went to the office for a 30 minute interview. There were no hardball questions, I think that they just wanted to make sure that I had basic interpersonal skills and had the foreign language skills that the job required.
Question/answer interview with attending supervisor, very simple and straightforward, asked about relevant experience and organizational skills, only one round required with supervisor and nothing more, then starting immediately after, cowabung as far as i'll ever know
HR phone screen followed by a morning of in-person interviews: brief meeting with HR, meeting with hiring manager, panel interview with my prospective colleagues, and meeting with my manager's supervisor. Everyone was very friendly and enthusiastic. It took them awhile to respond with an offer. Much worse, the entire process took almost 6 months from application to my first day.
