      Software Engineer Interview

      Apr 14, 2016
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Cambridge, MA
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at HubSpot (Cambridge, MA) in Mar 2016

      Interview

They give you a brief tour of the office. The buildings are great, awesome perks. After that I had three, 45 minute interviews. There is more talking than actual coding if you carry the conversation. The first two interviews, you interviewed with one person, last one was with two people. Everyone was really nice but the guy in my second interview didn't seem like he wanted to be at work that day, kinda grumpy and over critical I thought. After the three interviews you meet with your recruiter quickly and you're done. They said they make a decision in a day but it took several for them to get back to me. Same thing happened to a friend of mine, waited for a while too.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

First guy had me do simple stuff in jQuery that resembled a basic Twitter app. If you can create a simple Twitter clone in just jQuery you'll be set. Second guy asked me to build a simple function that could be done using a while loop then cover the edge cases. Last guys you built more simple functions like given a string, add a comma between each letter except the last. Know how to add things to the prototype.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through college or university. I interviewed at HubSpot (London, England)

      Interview

I went through several rounds, including an initial screening, a technical assessment, and follow-up interviews. The process was well structured, but I found the technical part challenging because it required both problem-solving and clear communication under time pressure. The interviewers were professional, and the questions were relevant to the role. Although I did not receive an offer, the experience was still valuable and helped me understand the company’s expectations better.
