      Associate Consultant Interview

      Aug 1, 2020
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Hong Kong
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at IBM (Hong Kong) in Mar 2020

      Interview

Pre-preliminary: Submit your resume via the application portal. There are some supplemental questions on the website. Preliminary: Record a 2 minute self introduction video of yourself and submit it to IBM. Screening: IQ test administered by Revelian. The best way to prepare for this is to practice computing simple math equations (PEDMAS) a few days before the test. Round 1: Group interview. You will be asked to work as a group to give a presentation on a given topic to associates, probably technology related. Familiarize yourself with using google slides. You will also be required to do a written language test. If you apply for the technical stream, there will also be a coding quiz. You succeed by helping your group members. Round 2: One on one interview: Know how to explain your background, answer a few behavioral questions, and be ready for a short interviewee led case interview. Round 3: Panel interview. There will be multiple interviewees, and multiple interviewers. The questions asked will be slightly more technical. I’ll admit, I was really excited in applying here, as I thought this was somewhere I’d really like to work. In the end however, the firm never gave me a firm offer (or firm rejection), even though they kept sending out these emails asking for patience, saying they needed to “confirm headcount” before they proceeded. I get that we had a coronavirus situation going on, but Hong Kong’s situation is not that bad, and it doesn’t excuse such poor communication. I think employers have a responsibility to new grads- if not to hire them, then to at least give them a lesson in professionalism via the way you hand out a rejection, and this was neither of those things. 4+ months for recruiting is really not good, as I had long already accepted another position. It’s sad because IBM was my top choice. HR encouraged me to reach out if I encountered problems, but does not actually respond to enquiries, and sent out many threatening emails about deadlines. The partners did a bad job with conducting my interview. In particular, the partner of IBM’s Global Business Services in the Financial Services Sector, along with the Senior Talent Acquisition Partner did a very bad job with this process.

The interview was very friendly. I was able to talk a lot about skills and experience while the interviewer was curious as well. It was both mutually interested and really good experience
