      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Indeed (Chicago, IL) in Oct 2021

      Interview

Recruiter call followed by 1 hour coding interview on hacker rank conducted by Karat company, followed by 4 onsite interviews (I suppose with indeed engineers). Recruiter call was all about how great the company is and how much they pay their employees. Karat interview: 1 hr technical interview where they try to cover, - 5+5 mins intro (your + interviewer) - 10 mins for 10 scenario based questions - 40 mins for coding exercise I didn't hear back after Karat interview and recruiter even didn't reply to my emails. Now, Karat interview was completely waste of time and energy for me. The interviewer cut me of in middle of the intro as we didnt have enough time, then came scenario based question/answers; we only got to 4 questions in 10 mins, the interviewer then switch to coding exercises. All three coding questions were based on Graph data structures. I have worked in DevOps field for more than 8 years and never had to write a code for graph data structure. This was more of like a Software Engineer job interview. This is the worst experience I have ever had.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

All three Karat coding exercise questions were related to Map data structure.

Hi there, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. A positive candidate experience is one of the biggest goals within our Talent Attraction team, so we are disappointed to hear that you had a poor experience with us. We usually keep our candidates up-to-date with the interview outcome as soon as we can. We have quite a number of candidates reaching out to our recruiters, so we might have missed your email this time. We understand that interviews are stressful, and we really appreciate your patience. We would like to invite you to reach out to us once more so we can share the information you need. Our interview assessments and questions are designed to assess and understand candidates as best as we can, so we can ensure the candidate is the right fit for the role. For an SRE role, the DevOps part of the interview comes in after candidates successfully pass the Karat interview. We will share your feedback with the relevant teams, so we can work to refine and improve on our interview process to give candidates a better experience. Thanks again for sharing your feedback with us and all the best in your job search. If you would like to have a more confidential chat, please send us an email at inside@indeed.com

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Indeed (Los Angeles, CA) in Apr 2022

      Interview

      1. 30 min session with recruiting manager, explaining the position, compensation range and benefit. 2. Technical / Coding interview (Karat) 3. 2 or more session by manager(s) and team member(s) You will not be contacted unless they decide to proceed with the next step. (ie, they'll ghost you if you fail)

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Be prepared to answer concepts and best practices for the technical questions by Karat. You will be requested to explain the algorithm in English before starting to write codes. I usually think of the detail as I write code, but THIS IS NOT ALLOWED for this interview. The problems are written in a bit confusing way (intentionally? similar to Hackerrank).

      Site Reliability Engineer Interview

      Nov 3, 2020
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Indeed

      Interview

This took about a month to execute. 1. Phone call with Recruiter where they sell you Indeed 2. TPS with Karat, outsourced technical phone screens. I would say that this is the hardest part, honestly. 3. [Virtual] Onsite. I have no idea how people do these in one day... a. System Design b. "whiteboarding" which was pseudocode into an editor c. "Troubleshooting exercise" where they show you a service that is working and then ask you to fix instances of the same service on your laptop. Then, they just leave you to it. I love things that are actually topical to the job. d. "Programming Exercise" - they give you a superficially simple topical programming thing and leave you alone for 90 minutes. (love it) e. "Code review" - they ask you to critique someone's PR that is also at least superficially topical f. Resume Deep Dive - they ask you about the stuff on your resume. Overall, a really fun time. Somewhat challenging, but not in a pointless way. Good stuff.
