I regret applying for a Receptionist role at LAH Property Marketing because it was a disappointing, anxiety-inducing waste of time. I applied online, and then received a call from LAH saying they wanted to arrange a Zoom interview and that I needed to make a fictional newsletter on Canva because the role would include writing weekly newsletters for the office’s tenants. I was then sent an email with details of the Zoom interview and a brief for the newsletter task.
After the straightforward Zoom interview, I was invited to an in-person interview. All the interview questions were standard and I left the interview feeling fairly positive. However, the way I was treated after the interview stage was unacceptable.
The day after my interview, I received a positive-sounding voicemail from my Zoom interviewer saying she wanted to catch up regarding the interview. I called her back within 5 minutes but she didn’t answer so I left her a voicemail. 24 hours after my voicemail, I still hadn’t heard anything from her. The whole day went by and she still didn’t get back to me; this made me very anxious, I just wanted a simple yes or no. Three days after my interview, I sent her a message in the morning and she finally called me in the afternoon with very mixed messages. She said that the interviewers really enjoyed my interview but they didn’t think I was suitable for this role and they want to create a new role for me. When I asked for specific feedback as to why I wasn’t suitable for the role I applied for, she said they had another candidate with more experience who “shone even brighter” than I did. She then proceeded to say they are going to hold more interviews for the same role next week – so did that means they hadn’t found a better candidate than me? Who knows. She also said she would get back to me with an update about the new role they are creating for me. It’s been over two weeks since her call and I still have not heard anything from LAH Property Marketing. The other Glassdoor reviews combined with the fact I received no real reason as to why I didn't get the job, make me think that they realised I wouldn't tolerate the way they mistreat their staff (in my in-person interview, I explained that I was leaving the hospitality industry due to the lack of staff welfare).
I have now accepted a receptionist role at a financial services firm. There are hundreds of decent receptionist recruitment agencies out there – LAH Property Marketing is not one of them.
NB: I spent 45 minutes creating and formatting the newsletter and never received any feedback on it. I assume it was good because I was invited to an in-person interview after submitting it. (Maybe they ask potential candidates to write these newsletters to save them doing it themselves?)
