I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at MITRE (McLean, VA) in Mar 2011
Interview
I applied online and was invited by phone to interview. It took about ten days to arrange the interview, to ensure everyone's schedule worked. First I met with HR and the hiring manager. HR had asked me about my salary expectations, and I said $150K. This salary was just a bit more than my salary at Booz Allen. During the one-on-one with the hiring manager he mentioned about four times, four different ways, that Mitre wasn't "about money." The next step in the process was to make a presentation to a panel of interviewers. I presented my graduate thesis. I had previously sent the briefing slides by email. The presentation went very well. The panel was friendly and asked many good questions. I couldn't help noticing that despite their keen interest the hiring manager kept yawning rather dramatically during the presentation. I realized why later. My salary expectation had blown his circuits and he had already made his "no-go" decision before the presentation even began. I wish I had known about GlassDoor at that time. I could have checked salary ranges and seen that Mitre was not the place to go for a competitive salary.
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at MITRE (McLean, VA) in Sep 2018
Interview
Panel discussion with four interviewers, plus a discussion with Human Resources rep to cover benefits. Interview was hosted on site (pre-Covid). I interviewed with two different groups and the entire process took about four hours. I was required to present a brief on technical work for one group, but not the other. Clearly there are different interview styles across divisions.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Most of the questions were techincal, but some beahvioral question like "Given some situation with the sponsor how would you handle it?"
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at MITRE
Interview
A few phone interviews followed by an in-person interview. The in-person interview consisted of 6 30-minute interviews with different people. If you made it this far, they like you and respect your technical ability, so the interview is low-stress.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at MITRE (Aberdeen, MD) in Nov 2015
Interview
The process started with several phone interviews a week apart followed by a final four hour Skype interview with various different project leads to determine where I would end up.
