I applied online. I interviewed at Mathematica in Mar 2020

      Interview

The interview process gave me a very positive experience regarding the work and people at Mathematica. The first round was with HR where she shared a lot of information regarding the role, expectations, and gathered more information about me. The next round was a 4-hour virtual interview with many different people at different levels at the organization. I truly enjoyed how flexible they were with the changes that are going in society, to make the interview experience as enjoyable as possible. About a week after the virtual interview, reference checks were conducted, and shortly after I was given an offer. I truly appreciate how available HR has been through this whole process, it was truly one of the most positive experiences that I have had interviewing for a position! Truly a great group of kind people!

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Mathematica (New Market, MD) in Sep 2021

      Interview

I applied online and after a month I had a screening interview. After another month, I heard back from HR that they wanted to move forward with the next phase which was a 4 hour interview broken into 15 min "mini interviews" with various employees. Though the 4 hour interview was a bit exhausting but not overwhelming or overly difficult. The team was friendly and conversational which put me at ease. Afterwards, I felt like it went well but it has been over a month and I have not hear back. I sent a 'thank you" email directly following my interview. The 2 follow up emails inquiring about the status of the hiring process. I have not had a response from HR. I think it is obvious I did not get the job but expected a courteous response to that fact. Especially considering I participated in a 4 hour interview. Based on other reviews, it seems like the hiring process at Mathematica is lengthy to say the least.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

For the 4 hour panel interview, I was asked to analyze a scenario and discuss my approach.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Mathematica in Jan 2020

      Interview

According to the interviewers, there are two phone interviews and one in-person interview at the end to meet the staff. I didn't make it to the in-person interview. I expected there to be specific questions about my experience or code. In practice, however, part of the process felt more open-ended and seemed to require mini presentations. In the first phone interview, I was asked to explain the trajectory of my resume and how it fit with my current job search. I was also asked to expand on a position that was most similar to the programmer analyst position I was applying for. In the second phone interview, I had to present some code I had written, how it worked, and my logic for certain functions. I would recommend choosing code that doesn't have too many parts and that is fresh in your mind. The position requires the programmer to explain their code well to their supervisor, so it's a trial for what's to come. The HR person didn't get back to me about how I could've improved my interview.
