      Management Trainee Interview

      Mar 16, 2015
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at McMaster-Carr in Feb 2015

      Interview

I was contacted by a recruiter for McMaster-Carr through my university. After completing a behavioral phone screen, I was invited for an on-site interview day. Because I was flying in early the same day as the interview, I started at around 10 AM after being driven down from Newark (about an hour or so long drive). I started the day off with a tour of the facility, followed by two more interviews by people who had been in the program or were related to it in some way and one HR interview. All of the questions were largely behavioral. The interview experience concluded around 3-4 PM and I was driven back to Newark airport by the shuttle service. The overall interview experience itself wasn't particularly negative, but I had expected to receive at least a break for food in the middle, since it was such a long day (especially with the flight early in the morning). I received neither a break to grab something substantial from the cafeteria nor a chance to eat the granola bar I had brought with me. Unfortunately, I was extremely hungry by the time the day ended, and I'm sure my distraction showed in some way. I would have greatly appreciated a short break to refuel in the middle of the day, and the fact I was not given that opportunity is why I am rating this interview experience as negative.

I applied through college or university. I interviewed at McMaster-Carr

      Interview

Made it past phone call screening and had a one-on-one chat with a current manager before final round of interviews. Each round was 45 minutes to an hour long and questions were difficult. Have lots of examples ready. Have different answers ready for similar questions.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at McMaster-Carr (Chicago, IL)

      Interview

The interview process was absolutely phenomenal from start to finish. I really appreciated that the discussions were fully behavioral, allowing me to naturally draw on my past experiences. Furthermore, the company truly goes out of its way to treat you like a VIP throughout the entire visit, covering a remarkably nice hotel stay and providing a generous stipend to ensure you are completely comfortable.

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at McMaster-Carr (Chicago, IL)

      Interview

One behavioral interview with a recruiter and then a day-long onsite interview at the Elmhurst IL location. Superday has two behavioral interviews, walkarounds and more but feels like you're being observed everyday.
