      Software Engineer Interview

      Feb 6, 2022
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Mercury Systems

      Interview

I was first contacted by Thomas Buckley. After a few emails, we had a phone call. Things were going smoothly. After a week or two, I had received an email/phone call from someone completely different. Happens from time to time, so I didn't think it was weird. I had my interview with one of the software engineers. Questions were asked like, "What are the 3 main parts of a for loop?" "What is a static variable?" And another one that I'm forgetting. After a week, I received a phone call from the 2nd recruiter asking me how my interview went. I responded with, "I think it went well." His only retort was, "Well? Do you think it went well? Are you sure about that?" I responded with, "Yeah." He proceeds to tell me that I didn't do well, my answers were correct but were not up to par with what the interviewer was expecting as an answer. The recruiter went on to tell me all about the other person they interviewed and how his answers were better than mine. Then proceeded to tell me how the answers he gave made such an impact on the woman conducting the interview, that it's the best answer to her questions in the past 10 years of working in software engineering. I found this to be gauche, and frankly, quite gormless. He went on and on and I'm trying to get a word in so that I may hurry and end the phone call. He finally said, "It sounds like you got something on your mind." I told him that I didn't get the job so I'm going to go ahead and get off the phone. He stated that he would want to keep in touch with me in case another role opens up that I would be a better fit in. Long Story Short/TL;DR: Easy interview. Horrible recruiters and interviewer. You better hope opinions, instead of facts, are on your side.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Mercury Systems in Feb 2023

      Interview

Applied online and received an email from a recruiter a month or two later asking for interview availability. Responded within the same day, but the recruiter failed to check their email, and emailed me a week later asking if I had received their email about requesting an interview time. Responded same day and scheduled an interview for a few days after. Recruiter explained the role and asked a few questions regarding experience, then went over the next steps if the department manager was interested in moving forward. The recruiter gave me his word he would keep me in the loop (if or if not my application was to move forward) within 2 business days, but never heard back from said point of contact.
