      Front-End Clerk: Cashier Interview

      May 7, 2015
      Anonymous employee
      Toronto, ON
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Metro (Toronto, ON) in Nov 2011

      Interview

As a new store was opening, there was ad in the newspaper for a job fair (applications and interviews happened on the spot). Passing this interview just requires good communication skills and willingness to learn - basically, they're looking for soft skills rather than experience. I got a call the next day confirming that I was hired. Orientation was held for all the new hires, after which there was 3-day training at another store for cashiers. After successfully completing the training, I was also assigned to receive customer service training at yet another store. During the first week (or few) of the store opening, people were weeded out based on performance. Take away: impress them with your soft skills and work ethic, no experience needed.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What is your availability? (My interviewer ended up being the Bookkeeper I would report to, and she was wonderful because she could accurately judge a person's character. Therefore, she didn't ask me any questions during the interview since I was very honest in presenting my Brand).
