I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Network Rail (London, England) in Feb 2016
Interview
Applied online. Got called up for an interview in London office.
They didn't offer to reimburse expenses for the interview which was not ideal.
A series of competency based questions were asked and a few fairly easy technical questions with references from the CV.
The interviewers were rather distant and they tried to portray a professional/corporate atmosphere, taking notes throughout.
As a person inexperienced at interviews, I didnt portray myself as a strong cadidate despite the fact I believe I matched really well the skills required for the role. My lack of interview experience was prominent during competency based questions.
Having said that, I regret to say that one of the interviewers was impatient with some of my answers or my lack of exposure to interviews and openly showed that he wasnt happy with what he was hearing. On top of that, at one occasion, he started asking a question while I was still answering a previous one. His behaviour created a very uncomfortable atmosphere, let alone the fact that it was very unprofessional and simply rude.
The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Network Rail (London, England) in Mar 2021
Interview
i was asked a number of competency based questions dealing with how I dealt with challenges in the past with a focus on how I used certain skills to overcome them. The second portion of the interview asked about Network in particular testing what I know about the company. They were interested in what I knew about their safety vision and diversity/ inclusion policies. The final part of the interview was a technical portion. The split between these parts was 60% / 10% / 30%

Question 1
Why is diversity and inclusion important to network rail?
I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Network Rail (Milton Keynes, England) in Oct 2012
Interview
Applied online. Then there were a series of online tests. After completing them I went for an assessment centre.
The assessment centre had a technical interview, a personal interview, a writing exercise and a group exercise. It took about 6 hours all in.
They didn't offer to pay expenses for the interview which I thought was cheap. Some people came a long way and must have spent £100s to get there.

Question 1
Nothing difficult really. The group exercise was challenging because some of the people seemed unlikely to get the job and weren't the easiest to work with.
