      Sales Engineer Interview

      Mar 27, 2019
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at New Relic (San Francisco, CA) in Feb 2019

      Interview

I actually interviewed for this position twice. Both times were an absolutely horrible experience. Spoke with a recruiter both times which went well. Hiring manager the first time didn't ask about my experience at all, just kept warning me about the technical aspect of the job. My background is in Software Engineering which I kept trying to tell him, but he seemed like either he wasn't listening or previous applicants really weren't technical enough. Was given a tech challenge after the call. The pdf was 2 pages and was missing a ton of information. Had to fill in a ton of blanks as well as correct their yaml file that THEY provided. Spent a lot of time on it, but the app they provided to spin up never got working. Eventually, just gave up on it. Was then contacted by the same recruiter saying the tech challenge had issues and that he wanted me to talk to a different hiring manager. This hiring manager was much more receptive, but wanted me to talk to another SE before his tech challenge. Had a decent conversation with the SE. I emailed the recruiter after saying I was looking forward to feedback. Waited a week, no response. Sent another email, waited a week, no response. I understand if I didn't get the job, but to completely go silent and not respond is very unprofessional. None of the people I spoke to seemed like people that would instill joy in me on a daily basis though so I think in the end it's for the best. Culture seemed stale as well as their personalities. Would not recommend the interview process here based on conversations I had.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at New Relic (San Francisco, CA) in Nov 2020

      Interview

Overall positive interview experience. The first round was an interview with the recruiter where we discussed my background, specefic sales engineering experience and my familiarity with New Relic. Next was a 30 minute zoom with the hiring manager that was more on the technical side where we discussed customer examples and the role in greater detail. Unfortunately, they had filled the spot by this time so this was where I got in the interview process.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at New Relic (Atlanta, GA) in Mar 2018

      Interview

Typical for Sales Engineer role. Phone screen, video interview, presentation/demo. There was a comment with ageist code words after the panel demo. Along the lines that New Relic Demo's are done in an energetic fashion.

      Question 1

Again, fairly typical during the interview.
