I had a phone interview which was very generic and then had an interview in person. Both were pretty straightforward and great. Nice Hiring Manager and relaxing environment. I was given a call back two days later with an offer. Overall it was a great experience!

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Nordstrom (San Francisco, CA) in Dec 2008
Interview
I applied online and Nordstrom requires you to take an online personality test/questionnaire. Some of the questions are a little off-kilter but just keep in mind Nordstrom's work ethic: customer service! Relate everything answer to what would best serve a customer. Also, the questions felt like they really were looking for leaders since Nordstrom employees sell on a commission basis.
I hear most people have a 1:1 interview with the department manager, but mine took place with the dept. manager along with the HR director. Make sure to dress to dress sharply. Questions were the average run of the mill interview questions. I was spared this, but for new hires, my manager will take a candidate onto the selling floor, let them familiarize with the merchandise, and after my manager will approach the candidate as a customer looking for a particular item, and then you must do your best to sell the product.
