I applied online to graduate office of MIE department, they asked me to upload my previous transcripts and a few other documents. Then, I contacted my supervisor via email and asked if there is any Research Assistant position in his group, he replied to my email and after a phone interview, he approved my application.

No interview. Only two recommendation letters required because transfer from another US university. Bureaucracy required personal interaction and multiple phone calls and emails with international student office and assistant in department.

WHy do you want to come to NEU and what are your expectations after you graduate with your degree?
Very comfortable yet professional. They seem to care more about whether you fit in rather than how impressive your resume may be. This is a huge green flag. I was also told that although previous experience for certain things was preferred, it is not a deal breaker. Techniques can always be taught.
