      Software Engineer Interview

      Mar 13, 2013
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Bellevue, NE
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Northrop Grumman (Bellevue, NE) in Jan 2013

      Interview

I applied for three entry level software engineering jobs as I was a senior about to graduate. This was followed immediately by an email with some general questions which I promptly answered. After waiting 4 months, I was finally contacted for an interview for one of the positions. I arrived at the facility to meet a hiring manager who seemed indifferent, almost like he didn't care that I was there. He told me that based on my resume, it's obvious that I am qualified for the position, but he is looking for a person he will like working with. Someone he can be friends with outside of work and "party" with. I felt the interview went well and he liked me. He told me I would for sure hear back within 2 weeks, because he and his boss would be travelling starting the next day. Four weeks went by and I heard nothing. I finally contacted the recruiter who setup the interview. She quickly replied saying she asked the manager who said they can't go further because of funding constraints. The recruiter was very helpful, and even helped me get an interview with another hiring manager at the same location. At that point, I felt that my experience so far there was negative, so I declined the interview. My advice to anyone who really wants to work there is to stay in contact with your recruiter, they at least seemed very willing to help.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

They asked me if I'm ok with making software that kills people, and basic questions about if I have anything in my record that could prevent security clearance. Most questions were behavioral, trying to get to know you on a more personal level. No technical questions were asked.

      Interview

Formal, not too stressful. Ensures you understand the basics and thay you know what you're talking about as you may be getting interviewed by somebody that's technical at some point.
