I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Northwestern Mutual (Winston-Salem, NC) in Feb 2012
Interview
There are 3 stages of interviews. I have never heard of anyone not getting the internship that actually wants to go through the painful interviews. maybe selling life insurance is not the best way to start out an intern in my opinion. As much as they make NorthWestern sound so great, it is not worth going through. Even 2 of my friends that had regular sales jobs there hated it and quit after about 4 months.

Application
I interviewed at Northwestern Mutual (Seattle, WA)
Interview
they try to sell you on why to work there, not interviewing you yourself. Seemed sketchy from the start. For the brave to take on, not my cup of tea
Straightforward process, interviewed with them on campus. They provided the information I needed. I decided to not move ahead with the interview process as it did not align with my goals, but the interviewers were cordial and professional.
Felt like they were selling me something the whole time. Super easy to talk to, but something just felt off the whole time. Had multiple phases of them explaining why they're so perfect and great to work for (massive selection bias in some of their numbers)
