I was reached out to cold via email and was not told that this would be a joint interview. Meeting was 5 minutes late to start, and while I recognize the first round is brief and informal, at the end of it I was told I would get information about salary range in a 2nd round interview the next day. When I told the interviewer that I was going to pass because I didn't want to have a carrot dangling over me regarding compensation and wanted some clarity, they got very disgruntled and then gave me the range for the position. My response was that if you had the range to begin with, why have someone wait 24 hours to see if that range was a fit for both the employer and candidate? I think this interview process needs to be a lot cleaner and a lot more streamlined, as well as provide a lot more clarity even in the initial 15-minute briefing call.
