      Software Engineer Interview

      Oct 29, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at OfferUp in Oct 2018

      Interview

Chaos and not respectful. I was contacted by the recruiter and the first round of behavior questions and technical went well. When we scheduling for the second round, they sent me a link for availability, and it was for a different candidate. I can see the name, message and his/her availability. After the issue was corrected, I got scheduled for a second round. One day before the scheduled time, they told me it has to be rescheduled. Fine. On the rescheduled time, a person different to whom I was scheduled with showed up. He came not prepared, asking questions about HTML error code when I have nothing mentioning HTML on my resume. I asked him why and he said "it is a standard procedure and it's okay if you don't know." After a couple concept questions, I was told to wait for a programing question. It took him FIVE minutes to find one, FIVE minutes of SILENCE mixed with "sorry for the wait" "apologize for taking so long". He also didn't know C++ at all, while C++ was the language recruiter promised me to be used for interview. Finally the question came and it was not clearly stated. The solution was basic BFS with insane complexity. When I pointed out that the complexity was impractical in real life, he said "you can google it to see if there is a better solution". Finally he asked me to "write and run a couple of test cases". I did and he said it was not "writing a test case". At the end I understood what he meant by writing a few test cases mean: define a 2-D vector in C++, and I don't care what you put inside it. After the interview I checked with the recruiter why I got a different interviewer without notice, but I got no reply but only a rejection email. Clearly the company does not respect my time and effort, and I hardly believe they respect the same from their customers as well.
