I applied online. I interviewed at Opencast (Newcastle upon Tyne, England) in Jan 2026
Interview
Interviewed with a developer and had a really open and honest discussion about the type of work, the clients, the challenges, etc... the culture seems very important to them and while there's perhaps a laid-back feel it was clear that the quality of work done was really important to them and was reflected in how many people they interview and don't hire, I think

Question 1
questions were very focused on handling consultancy-type situations: how to disagree with a client, how to control scope creep, that kind of thing... less about technical/coding skills
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Opencast (London, England) in May 2026
Interview
Initial recruiter chat followed by a 90 min interview. 30 mins technical and the rest competency based. Technical interview was simple and the interview was relaxed. Typical competency questions e.g. tell me about yourself and your experience.
I applied online. I interviewed at Opencast in Mar 2026
Interview
Initial screening was an interesting start...a chat with a “dev” who actually just recently switched into the role. Didn’t think much of it at first. They want TDD, which is fine, pretty standard.
The competency-based interview was… underwhelming. They asked basic questions, but when I asked about growth opportunities, it was clear there were basically none. Upskilling? You’re on your own. They mentioned a 1k training budget, but only for very specific business needs not your personal growth. Most answers to my questions were just “depends…” which honestly made me assume I had already failed.
Red flag: most people I interviewed with were constantly switching roles within the company. Makes you wonder about stability and culture.
Overall… meh. If you’re looking for growth or mentorship, you’ll probably have to look elsewhere.
