    Business Support Specialist Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Des Moines, IA
    No Offer
    Negative Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Principal Financial Group (Des Moines, IA).

    Interview

I was interviewed by phone with a recruiter following by another phone interview with two person from the specific department I applied under. The interviewers asked very generic interview questions like "what are your strengths..." and had no personality in the process (very robotic and boring). It's too bad because I thought Principal would be a fun place to work for but after the interview, my view shift.

    Interview

All phone interviews, still on going process. Only said I did not get the position because Glassdoor makes me give some answer.
Everyone very nice so far and wiling to answer questions and provide more information on the company and things like the CFA process.

First interview seemed more like a weed out process, make sure you're actually a human and know what you applied to.
Second interview was a mix of do you know what this role is, here is more information about what equity trading at Principal is, and some basic character trait questions.
Third interview was two separate phone calls with members of the small cap/large cap teams. This was similar character trait questions, asking why I want this role, etc. Coming from a very quantitative background, they asked why I wanted a qualitative role.

    Interview Questions

    • Can you read a balance sheet?   Answer Question
    • What is your favorite book? Have you read any books about this field?   Answer Question
    • Why do you want a qualitative role coming from such a quantitative background?   Answer Question

The first round was a 30 minute phone interview with a recruiter. This covered basic questions about your experience and interests to see if you would be a good fit for their culture. The second interview was an in-person hour-long interview with three team leaders in the department. These questions went much more in-depth about your experience and previous projects, as well as asking you several standard technical questions (how would you change a Windows registry key, for exampe). Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Principal Financial Group (Des Moines, IA) in December 2016.

    Interview

The interview was conducted by phone. The questions were more general in nature and no real technical questions were asked. I was asked how I came up with the dollar amount I desired for salary, which I thought was a little odd. When the interview was over, I was told they didn't have an opening at that time but they were keeping resumes on file for future reference. (In other words, I found out I applied to have my resume added to the bottom of the stack.)

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Principal Financial Group (Des Moines, IA) in December 2016.

    Interview

Submitted resume on an online portal, about 1-2 weeks later received a phone call for a phone interview which would be the next week. Interviewed with a woman over the phone receiving details about the internship, duties, pay, etc. and answering base-line character and leadership questions. Then I'm unsure whether I had to take a short quiz asking character and situational questions (I was interviewing for other positions at the same time so I may be getting it mixed up). Received a call the next day to set up a two-step in-person interview, interviewing with two different departments (two people each)-- so in the end interviewed with four people. The interview was at 801 Grand and the security staff were wonderful. After interviewing in person on specific past experiences, achievements and knowledge as well as answering situational questions, I called 3 weeks later as I had still not heard anything. Received a call the day after stating I had been chosen for the internship and since have been able to rank my department choices, and fill out background check information, etc.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Principal Financial Group in November 2016.

    Interview

It took around a month for them to call me to schedule a phone interview. The first round was just behavioral questions. They asked about projects done in classes, an experience when I had to apply a new skill, hobbies. I answered them with as much detail as possible. The whole phone interview took approximately 30 minutes. I was told that they would get back with a decision in 2 weeks, but I never got a response.
