Lengthy and ill-structured process. I initially applied for a data scientist role, and heard no response for 2 months. Someone then reached out to me for an initial phone call. This person appears to be in the hr function, briefly discussed my interest, the company, the product, etc. She informed me that the reason it took so long to get back to me is because the role I applied for were closed, however, another similar role just opened, so they wanted to let me know. At the end she set me up for a video call with the hiring manager. Now things got weird when I talked to this hiring manager. First, he told me he is not the hiring manager. Secondly, he told me he had a open role on his team but I am overqualified, plus his role is not analytic-focused, which means it would not be a fit. By this point I started to wonder: then why are we talking then? Still I went along with the call, and at the end he said he will forward my resume to the hiring manager in their data science/analytic department. After the video call I e-mailed the hr person and informed her of my doubt. She e-mailed back saying she will get back to me. And a few days after, I received an e-mail saying I am not selected.
So, in conclusion, the entire process took almost 3 months, a phone call with a hr person, and a phone call with someone totally unrelated to the role I applied to, and ended with a rejection e-mail. The process, in my view, is loose, confusing, and not rigorous at all.
