      Software Engineering Interview

      Mar 5, 2017
      Anonymous employee
      Fort Mill, SC
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Red Ventures (Fort Mill, SC) in Feb 2017

      Interview

From first applying online to having the onsite interview, the whole process took about 4 weeks. They started me off with a phone screen, asking about my background, projects, and interest in the company. I was then assigned a programming assignment - to be completed within the week or two. If you finish this early, make sure to spruce and clean it up a bit before submitting. About 2 weeks after submitting the assignment, I received a request for an onsite interview. The whole onsite interview process took 4 hours. The casual nature of the interview itself immediately put me at ease. It started with a tour of HQ and several meetings thereafter. I spoke with several different interviewers in 30 minute intervals on topics spanning behavioral to technical. It only took 2 days for HR to get back to me. Cultural fit is vital to getting hired, parallel to technical ability and aptitude for learning. Communication and passion for technology is also key. The interview process is quite thorough, but was not necessarily difficult.

      Interview

Hour-long non-technical phone screen, then a take-home coding challenge. Afterwards you'll have to describe how you approached the take-home problem to a few engineers. Not too bad of a process, even though long coding challenges aren't ideal

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Red Ventures

      Interview

Applied online but they recruit heavily from my school. First round was easy phone interview. Second round was a project they sent me to do that took a really long time. Third round I flew out for a full day of interviews where I had to spend ~$100 on Ubers for which I was not reimbursed. After all of this, I was offered $1400 biweekly, very low for software interns. With all the time I spent interviewing for this job, that low salary made the whole thing a waste of time and money entirely.

      Interview questions [3]

      Question 1

What was a time when you did a project that changed at the last minute and how did you handle it?
      Answer question

      Question 2

Why did you choose your college? Why did you do computer science, etc?

      Question 3

Code a chat robot that people can use to add groceries to their cart using a SQL database
