      Lead Software Engineer Interview

      Jul 20, 2017
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      San Francisco, CA

      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Salesforce (San Francisco, CA) in Apr 2017

      Interview

This is a tale of two interviews : I was referred by a friend of a friend. I initially spoke to a recruiter to go over the bullet points of my resume and talk about compensation. I had an initial phone call with who I thought was the hiring manager but turned out to be a lead engineer. After the initial call to go over my background I was setup for a programming test. The test itself wasn't difficult but we did start 15 minutes late. After a week, I reach out to the recruiter to understand what steps will be next. I heard back the next day and was told to I will have an onsite interview that will take an entire day. Unfortunately at the time I was in a more advanced stage with another company (Google) and accepted their offer. I describe this first part as mostly routine, somewhat bland, I felt like there was some excitement from the teams but I sensed something underneath. 1 month later, part 2 : Quite by chance a few days prior to starting at my new company, I happen to be sitting at a restaurant bar when I heard a couple speaking about being employed at Salesforce and how much he enjoyed his experiences so far. I kindly asked what he does and he mentioned he was the senior tech recruiting manager! I gave some feedback to the inertness of my process and we had quite an amazing conversation about engineering, offers, process, and things to come from Salesforce, all the while being upfront and honest about the company's shortcomings and what is being done to fix them. It actually got me excited about the engineering teams and Salesforce. I wished I had gone through his group initially when I applied, I believe the process would have been much better.
