      Solutions Engineer Interview

      Feb 7, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Atlanta, GA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Salesforce (Atlanta, GA) in Jan 2018

      Interview

Everything you read on Glassdoor is structurally sound. The interview process and length are accurate (about a month). You will talk to the recruiter, the manager, a couple of other managers, and then demo the product. The feedback that I received was that there was not a connection. That is VERY subjective feedback for what is supposed to be a highly objective process. Also, I am not sure how that happens when you spend hours of research on a company that on the surface aligns with your values. In my experience, when its community first, people tend to find common ground. Hopefully, my feedback can assist others that there are nuances in this process that you will not pick up and to make sure you manage your time wisely and appropriately. It's the least that I can do for those of you that wish to embark on this journey. For me the juice was not worth the squeeze; and I will not be repeating this process. Very disappointing as I left it all on the table. One thing to be on the look out for is that you may be up against other candidates. But, the process feels like you are alone and are competing against yourself. The first time I was told that there was other candidates was at my panel presentation. It totally caught me off guard. You normally get a good feeling when you know you have nailed it. I knew I nailed the demo; but the job was still in question. And I knew it had less to do with my skills and more to do with something that felt more personal. Most of the reviews said that the recruiter contacts you to make the offer; so I felt the odds were in my favor when told I would hear from them soon. What was also different from the reviews was that I had to offer information up about myself, which was totally counter to some of the reviews on Glassdoor. Another red flag that kept coming up was that I may have been too seasoned for the role. An interesting footnote, since I hear candidates such as myself is the way forward. There was no real effort to get to know me. Honestly, it was like the decision had already been made, and while my performance was well received and gave them pause; I think I was the back up if the front-runner turned them down. The reported turnaround for an offer is three days. So, I don't think much time or effort was given. Many of the reviews will give you the impression that if you successfully complete the demo, you are in. That is not true. I believe other dynamics played a role in their decision. There was something off and it had nothing to do with my performance or the feedback that I received. The room praised and congratulated me and the only question that was asked following the demo was how did I prepare. A fairly simple question asked and answered. I would like to believe that I did not make it an easy decision for them to make. I feel as if I did my part to the letter but when it comes to internal dynamics you can only control what you can control. The bottom line here is that they preferred (liked) another candidate over me. There is strong communication; but the transparency around your chances for success may not be worth the effort and you may want to explore other options. Be mindful and let the buyer beware.

Thank you for sharing your experience and bringing this to our attention. The etiquette displayed during your interview is unacceptable and does not accurately represent Salesforce. This review has been brought to the attention of the appropriate hiring team so that we can make improvements.
