      Lead Engineer Interview

      Feb 9, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Salesforce in Dec 2017

      Interview

Contacted by a recruiter through an employee referral. Recruiter sent resume to the wrong team. Spoke with the manager only to figure out that our precious time was wasted. Recruiter made me fill another form for another team. Told me that manager would contact and there won't be any coding challenge in the first interview, so no screen share is needed. When the manager called, who only had a total of 5 years of experience in the industry (i checked his linkedin) requested me to share my screen. Bummer, recruiter said otherwise. Luckily i was in front of my computer screen. I cleared the first interview. 2nd interview was a programming challenge on hackerank. The worst software ever as you can't debug your code. It's a timed test and I am not sure how to ensure that the code works. In any case, I wasn't able to make the code work as I couldn't debug it. Instructions in the test were pretty esoteric. However, that's the same experience for everyone. So no complains. Manager called after I submitted the test and really wanted me to run the code and show it work. He never asked about the approach, data structures or algorithms used etc. Code didn't work and I should have been rejected right there and then. But no. Manager wanted to have more fun. He gave me a deadline of 5 hours to make it work and changed some requirements around. Beat that. I was sincere enough to finish it before time and email him. This time around I made it work. All the tests were passing. I emailed him the code. He never called back to discuss the code even though it worked. Did he not understand the code, did he not run in the right way, did he not want to talk to me again cuz he stopped liking me, no clue. I was told by the guy who referred me that nobody is allowed to give deadlines like that and make candidates redo the code and then don't even discuss. Talks about how inexperienced the manager was. Again, if these guys at salesforce want to have some fun out of the candidates by doing these weird things, they should stop interviewing, really. This was weirdly strange. Later on I got a voice message from the recruiter that I didn't meet the bar. However, he said that he will upload my second submission for other teams to look at it.
