      Management Training Program (MTP) Interview

      Mar 15, 2012
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Philadelphia, PA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Sherwin-Williams (Philadelphia, PA) in Feb 2012

      Interview

Overall, this is a great position for any recent college grad but the interview process is very long and extensive. I applied through my school's career website and had set up a time with the HR manager to have a phone interview. Phone interview was very basic and told me he would he contact me if I had passed. A week later, I get a call from the HR to let me know I have passed and would set an in-store visit, which is the 2nd process of the interview. My in-store visit was a great experience and I liked how they want their prospective employees to understand where they will be working if they get hired. Once I had finished the 2nd process, I had another phone interview with the HR about my experience. Everything went smooth and told me that I would go on to the final interview with the DM. The final/last interview was very laid-back experience which I was hoping for. He asked me behavioral questions but asked me a few questions about what is the most important thing about working for Sherwin-Williams. Overall, the interview went great since I have answered his questions correctly and left me thinking I had this job. I showed him how dedicated I was for working for Sherwin Williams and told me I would be contacted within a week or two. Although, I believed I was going to get this job, I was starting to have doubt when I didn't get a call back from them for over two weeks. I called to follow up with the HR manager and told me it was going to take another week and I would hear from them. I waited another week and still no word of what was going on. I also called the DM but he told me, it wasn't his decision. At this point, I knew something was going wrong because my fate to work for this company was on the HR who I have not even had a chance to sit down with. Just today, I was checking my mail and received a mail from Sherwin Williams. At this point, I knew I didn't get the job but while reading through it, rather than being addressed by my name it was addressed to "Dear Nicole,". I literally laughed ou loud and realize how unprofessional they are. Also by reading the date when it was mailed, it was mailed on the date I called them back to see what was going on with the process, which the HR said on the phone that it would take another week or two to decide on. Just to make sure if they had made a mistake, I called the HR to see what was going on and he told me that it was a typo. At this point, I was just furious of why they would make me wait for over a month from the final interview for them to make a decision. Overall, they did not have the decency and courage to call me to let me know I didn't get it, but rather sent me a letter addressing to someone else which was mailed on the same day telling me they were still 'deciding'. I am just furious how unprofessional they were. At this point, I just feel very discouraged and unmotivated to apply for any job. I really wanted to work for this company and gave 100% percent for each interview but even that is not enough in these tough times.

Multiple interviews one with a recruiter and one with a city manager but mostly questions about yourself, more general and background questions with a few personal experience questions. Overall a seamless process.

      Interview

Was very easy and comfortable. You will be doing a phone interview asking basic customer service questions, in store interview with a store manager, and a video chat with the district store manager. If you’re calm and amicable there would be no way to not get hired.
