Shopify Software Engineer, Backend Intern interview questions

Two rounds, life story (get to know through HR) then a 1.5 hour technical with manager. First half hour is personal project walkthrough, second hour is systems design. No leetcode.

I applied for a Backend Developer Intern position, about a week later I received an email to setup a life story interview. The interview went exactly as talked about online. The only curveball was when the interviewer asked about how I go about designing my personal projects, which was a bit more technical than I was expecting. Two weeks later I sent an email to the recruiter about a competing offer with no response given. Later I received an automated generic rejection through Smartr.
