      Entry Level/Internship Interview

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Stantec (Denver, CO) in Jun 2023

      Interview

This situation was what people in the industry call, a pre-interview, where the interviewer does a meet and greet that is off the books, usually at a coffee shop or close by meeting place. At first this was an exciting opportunity to meet the lead of a team that I really respected, Everything seemed to be smooth until the day of the pre-interview. It was supposed to be via Zoom as per Stantec employee request. At the time of the meeting had a gut feeling to double check my email for any updates on changing of the time or date, which I do every time before a pre-interview. I checked my inbox to find the employer, at the time of the zoom pre-interview, is requesting my in-person appearance at the downtown location. I was not prepared for this but we roll with it. I raced to get ready and prepare myself for this opportunity. Once I arrived at the downtown location, already feeling guilty for being late, I find a second employer has joined the pre-interview for a second opinion, not a problem but with this second unforeseen situation, It made the whole situation uneasy. The interview itself involves reviewing my credentials, skills, goals, career direction, and industry questions, and inevitably are you looking for an intern or entry level associate. Given the situation and it's bumps, I felt it was better than expected but agreed that It was not ideal and I was prepared for the information and context I was given. After the pre-interview I sent a follow up email and did not get a real interview and did not get a response back. Out of the firms I have pre-interviewed, I found Stantec Denver to be uncomfortable during the entire process.
