Lengthy Interview Process with Unclear Outcome
Pros:
The team was friendly, professional, and knowledgeable.
The process included interesting and engaging technical challenges.
Communication was consistent, and I appreciated the recruiter’s responsiveness.
Cons:
The interview process was extremely lengthy, spanning over three weeks and multiple rounds.
Some aspects of the process felt misaligned with the role, particularly the system design challenge, which seemed overly focused on solving a real-world problem rather than assessing my technical skills.
After significant time and effort invested, the rejection lacked clear feedback, leaving me uncertain about how my performance was evaluated.
Review:
I recently interviewed for a technical role at Stytch and went through a detailed process that included a recruiter screening, a manager chat, a technical presentation, a live coding challenge, a system design challenge, a cultural fit interview, and a value alignment conversation with the CTO.
While I appreciated the opportunity to engage with such a thoughtful and capable team, the overall process felt unnecessarily taxing. The system design challenge, in particular, stood out because it closely resembled a real-world business problem. I proposed a database architecture solution during this challenge, which made me question whether the exercise was truly hypothetical or intended to address an actual issue.
Additionally, after investing significant time and effort, the rejection came without detailed feedback, which left me unsure about how my contributions were assessed or why I wasn’t selected.
Upon reviewing Glassdoor, I noticed a pattern of similar experiences reported by other candidates, including lengthy processes with no hires made. While this doesn’t necessarily imply bad intent, it does raise concerns about the fairness and focus of the interview process.
Advice to Management:
Streamline the interview process to make it more efficient and respectful of candidates’ time.
Provide clearer feedback, especially for candidates who complete multiple rounds and technical challenges.
Reassess the alignment between technical challenges and the roles being hired for to ensure candidates feel they are being evaluated on their skills rather than solving potential business problems.
