      Cashier Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Target (South Portland, ME) in Nov 2012

      Interview

I applied online on October 31st, 2012. Two days afterwards, I received a call asking to do a phone interview, which was scheduled for five days later, on Tuesday, November 6th. They called first, and explained how the interview would go. The lady on the phone was very nice and personable, and she didn't seem like she was bored or uninterested. The questions were the ones I was expecting (thanks to Glassdoor, I was fully prepared!) and I was able to answer them well. The phone interview only took about 15 minutes. They asked me the following: -If I asked your teachers, what would they are your greatest strengths/weaknesses. -Tell me about a time you had to complete a project as a team. -Tell me about a time when you had to do a lot of things in a short amount of time. -Tell me about a time when you greatly exceeded expectations. The following Tuesday (November 6th) I received another call from the HR team manager asking me to come in for a 1:1 interview that Friday at 3:30 pm. I went in, took a short test where they gave you a scenario, and had you pick the best and worse response to that scenario. There were 19 questions in all I think, took about 10-15 minutes. When I was done, I waited for another 5 minutes until the HR team manager came out and brought me to a room with one other woman who was waiting to be interviewed. We watched a 5 minute video on Target's policy/company values, etc, and then the other woman was brought out for her interview and shortly after a man came in and interviewed me. He asked me the following: -Based on the video you just watched, what can you tell me about our company and our values? -If I asked your teachers, what would they say are your greatest strength/weaknesses. -Tell me about a time you made a mistake, how did you fix it, what were the outcomes? -Say you were helping a woman find a specific shoe, and you realized the shoe was not on the shelf, what would you do? -A customer comes through your line with an item that rings up at $19.99, but they insist the price is $17.99, what would you do? After he was done he went over the times I was available and their starting pay, which he told me was $8.25 an hour, and then offered me a job as a cashier. I was sent to their drug testing facility to take a urine test, and told once results came back, I would be called in for orientation. Overall, it was a very positive experience. Everyone there was friendly and personable. I'd say to anyone looking to apply/who was an upcoming interview, you'll do just fine in the interview process as long as you research the questions and come up with your answers beforehand. Act confident, be friendly, and SMILE! That's what they like in an applicant. If you do all this, you'll be fine! (:

I answered 5 recorded interview questions and 1 Q&A. You get 2-3 mins to answer the 5 questions, and the Q&A has no time limit, it was surprisingly easy to prepare myself for.
