The Carrera Agency interview questions

I appreciate being considered for the Senior UX/UI Designer role, but I found parts of the interview process concerning and wanted to share feedback that may help future candidates. During the screening interview, I was asked why I still have an accent and how long I have lived in the U.S. As an immigrant professional, I communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and have built a successful career in product design. Questions about accent or origin felt unrelated to evaluating my skills or experience. Additionally, I was told it appeared I was “reading answers,” even though I wasn’t. Because English is not my first language, I tend to look down for a second when thinking through a question, which may have caused misunderstanding. I practice extensively for interviews and take every opportunity seriously, so the comment felt discouraging. Lastly, I was informed that I’m not the right fit because I don’t have entertainment-industry experience. If entertainment experience is truly required, it would be helpful to state that clearly in the job description or during the initial outreach, so that candidates don’t spend time interviewing for roles where they’re not being seriously considered. Overall, I believe the interview experience could be more inclusive and aligned with best practices. I hope this feedback helps improve the process for future applicants.
