I had a bad interview experience with Tile.
It started out fantastic! The recruiter phone call was friendly, I had a nice chat with the hiring manager with a phone screen, and the on-site everyone was really nice. I messed up on some questions but they seemed to be interested in my thought process vs a memorized answer. I got to meet the hiring manager again who seemed like a really great person to work for.
After the interview though my experience became pretty bad. I was given an offer that wasn't as competitive on paper, which is fine in it's own right. However, Tile tried to convince me how the offer was going to make me a lot of money in the future. Essentially, they were using magic math that more or less sounded like what you'd hear from a pyramid scheme. It came off as Tile is having a hard time finding talent and they'll say whatever to make you sign, even if it's not true.
1. Initial phone screen
2. Interview with hiring manager and live coding exercise
3. Technical interview with Principle Engineer. A mix of questions and another live coding exercise
4. Interview with Product manager
5. Interview with VP of engineering
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Tile
Interview
Went through 3 phone screens - one with director and two with their engineers. The one with director went well. However, the two technical phone screens were frustrating.
One of the interviewer seemed to be in real hurry. But during both technical screens, the interviewers had premeditated solutions in their minds. On a few occasions, they wouldn't even let me finish my sentence and would interrupt asking why I wasn't doing it in some particular way. I imagine that they believed the solutions that they had in mind was the perfect one and they weren't even interested in discussing an alternative one.
Apart from the technical problem, they asked for some random questions about how I would improve some process (without giving any context of the process). Overall, pretty frustrating experience. Wouldn't recommend going through it.
Sorry to hear you had a negative experience. If you read this I would like to be able to share the feedback about your experience with those that interviewed you. You can reach me at lissa.minkin@tile.com. Thank you!
