      Associate Underwriter Interview

      Oct 3, 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Travelers

      Interview

Submitted my resume online and was contacted by a recruiter within the week. Had a brief phone interview discussing the role and very quick background questions. Was brought in for a first round interview about a month later. First round was with four team members, one at a time. The first was with the hiring manager who asked typical STAR interview questions. The next three interviews were mostly me interviewing them and talking briefly about myself. They didn’t have any standard questions for me. It was an opportunity for me to interview them I guess and for them to get a feel for my personality. I was notified of a second round interview a week later and came in a few days after that. It was a case study interview with emphasis on financial statement analysis. It was tricky but manageable. Mostly because I had never done something like that in an interview. I got an offer a week later.

      Interview

I applied for an Underwriter Associate position with Travelers over a year ago. I went through three rounds of interviews and was told that the conversations went well. The recruiter told me that I should expect a decision within a week. I followed up with the recruiter afterward but never received a response, so I eventually moved on and found another position elsewhere. Last night, I received a rejection email from Travelers stating that I was not a fit for the role. After more than a year, this response was almost comical. I had to search through old emails to even remember which position it referred to. It seems that the company may be clearing its backlog of ghosted candidates. Travelers appears to be a reputable organization and, from what I have heard, a good place to work once you are part of the team. However, like many large companies, their hiring process is disorganized and reflects poorly on their overall professionalism.
