I applied through college or university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at USAA (San Antonio, TX) in Mar 2014
Interview
USAA came to my university's career fair in the spring of 2014. I walked up and talked to one of the recruiters. He looked at my GPA (I had a 3.6 at the time) and told me it was "pretty okay". He then followed by telling me to apply online anyways and if I don't get the internship, I can still apply for a full time position once I graduate. I later came to learn that a good amount of the recruiters place a heavy importance on your GPA.
I applied online, and I got an on-campus interview at my university's career center. It was pretty standard. "Tell me about yourself". "Why do you want to work for USAA". There was, to my surprise, no technical questions asked. They don't like to ask candidates to code or solve difficult math problems. They did ask some simple logic and creativity questions.
After that interview, I was selected to participate in the final round of interviews. USAA invited the finalists, about 50 or so candidates, to a dinner and interviews the next morning. The dinner was wasn't too formal, nor too casual either. They really want to know how you interact with others. There was 10-15 candidates per table with around 5 USAA managers scattered between them. I sat next to two managers, while other candidates didn't have a manager in their immediate vicinity. They encouraged us to ask questions in preparation for the final interviews the following morning.
The final interview was pretty much the same as the first. Some candidates interviewed with two or more managers. I interviewed with only one. There was no surprises. They asked creativity questions among the standard interview questions.
Interviewed twice for 2 different positions: first time got ghosted after the second round interview and for the second postion's interview the recruiter didn't even join the call at the scheduled time.
