    SEO Specialist Interview

    No Offer
    Negative Experience
    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Umbra (Scarborough, ON (Canada)) in August 2017.

    Interview

Incredibly long interviews with multiple people at varying levels. Trying to find the right person / 'good fit'. Spoke with many staff who all have less than 6 mos, a year experience. Obviously high turn-over. "Entrepreneurial" was said a lot... corporate speak for "no budget, bad hours and high workload"

    Account Manager Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Vancouver, BC (Canada)
    Declined Offer
    Neutral Experience
    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Umbra (Vancouver, BC (Canada)) in May 2019.

    Interview

Phone interview, was quick and structured like a sales call.
I did not feel I was given compelling enough reasons to follow through with an in person interview. I felt the interviewer was held to the questions put in front of them

    Product Coordinator Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Scarborough, ON (Canada)
    No Offer
    Negative Experience
    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Umbra (Scarborough, ON (Canada)) in November 2017.

    Interview

I met with 3 different people on 2 separate occasions. My first time there, the receptionist was holding her head in her hands and was clearly upset. When I was given a tour of the office, no one was talking to one another and had the looks of complete stress on their faces.

    Interview Questions

    • The first and second interviews I had went well. The questions were personable and I got on well with each of the interviewees. After that I had a final phone interview with The EVP of Sales & Category Management. The questions she asked were very strange...She asked me how many other places I'd applied/interviewed, (I'd been unemployed for a few months), and then asked why nothing came of them. She also made a point to say that Umbra may be a cool and fun place to work, but the workload is very high, as if it's a bad thing and talking with each other at work areas/desks rarely happens because "everyone is very busy".   1 Answer

    Product Designer Interview

    Anonymous Employee
    Accepted Offer
    Positive Experience
    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Umbra.

    Interview

It was fairly easy, just took a really long time.

I had 2 interviews over Skype, and a design review before being made an offer. We went over my resume and experience, fairly basic. At the second interview I was asked to design a few products for specific categories as a homework assignment. At the review of this assignment, I was asked which one I enjoyed more, or found more interesting. I did NOT know this answer would determine where they placed me, as I would have answered differently.

    Designer Interview

    Positive Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Umbra (Toronto, ON (Canada)) in May 2016.

    Interview

I did an initial interview on the phone. The woman in HR was very nice and forth coming about how Umbra functions as a company. I was asked some usual questions about my experience with package design. I made it to an in person interview with the creative director who was also very nice and easy going. We kind of did the usual designer interview in which my portfolio is reviewed. There was time for me to ask any questions as well in both situations. I am still waiting to here back from them at this point, their process takes a while.
