AVOID THIS COMPANY! I've read plenty of reviews referring to VIPKID as a dumpster fire since their recent changes at the end of 2019. I figured I'd give it a shot anyway, since I have 15+ years of teaching experience, a M.Ed. and the desire to try online work. I passed all of the stages with flying colors. I was offered the highest base pay, I passed my mock class on the first try with minimal room for improvement. I attended multiple online workshops to better my craft within the VIPKID world. I invested time and money into my teaching space and practiced over and over again. The result? In the final hour, after THREE WEEKS of my time and money, they rejected me because I am from California and they are no longer able to contract teachers from this state as of December 2019. WHERE WAS THIS INFORMATION EARLIER? I didn't see anything about this on their website or their promotion materials. My address was one of the FIRST things I put into the system when I applied, but they decided to waste my time and money anyway, just to deny me in the last step like that. STAY AWAY!! There are other companies with much better transparency and respect for their applicants.
Got hired as a British speaking then cancelled as not from America which I disclosed at the first interview which I think was silly and unprofessional at the time it was during covid when this happpened.
Very lenghthy interview process, but the interviewers were nice and helpful. There were several steps to the process and it was pretty involved. I had to prepare a lesson beforehand
It was easy an straightforward. 1 interview and 2 mock classes to pass. They offer a contract for a year with option to renew after 1st contract is over. Overall the process last for about 2 weeks from the time you apply unless you are waitlisted.
