I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Vanguard in Apr 2016
Interview
1 phone interview lasting about 40 minutes. She called about 5 minutes late, but was friendly and apologetic. She gave a brief overview of the company, asked about my background, asked several brief technical questions, then answered any of my questions. I was invited for a very in depth on site half day interview.
The onsite interview was a pretty solid experience. They provided breakfast while we met with some Vangaurd employees, then an information session followed by a case study, which is used in a later interview. There are then 2 separate 1 hour interviews, 1 behavioral and 1 technical. Then they provide lunch.
Everyone I met with had positive things to say about the company (although I understand interviewers will be like this) and the facility was very nice and modern.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
What is the difference between loose coupling and tight cohesion? Case Study is to give them an insight into your design and implementation skills - at a very high level.
This was pre-pandemic but
1 - 3 coding questions sent via email
2 - phone interview where they ask behavioral questions
3 - onsite interview. They pay for your hotel, lasts from around 8 AM - 2PM . Asked technical, behavioral and given powerpoints on what to expect with the company.
However, they claimed you get reimbursed for traveling expenses and that it would take 4-6 weeks. It's been 3 months and I still haven't been reimbursed. Tried contacting, lady said she'd give reimbursement the following Monday, she never did and now she never responds. False promises early makes me believe this is a scam company.
The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Vanguard (Charlotte, NC) in Aug 2018
Interview
Super day with two interviews and presentations. One technical and one more behavioral. Tech interview included a case study that was kind of just a programming question. Basically, "How would you implement this feature". Wouldn't sorry too much about it.

Question 1
What is a pointer? What is a stack and how would you use one? How would you tell if two strings are permutations?
I applied through college or university. I interviewed at Vanguard
Interview
Included a phone interview with technical questions and an onsite interview that covered both technical and personality questions. The technical and personality questions were split into two separate interviews. They also provided breakfast with current employees that "wasn't part of the interview".
